ROASTS AND REWARDS
ABCC ANNUAL DINNER 2007
By Paul Rai
On Friday 12 October, the Armitage Bridge Cricket Club annual dinner took place at Meltham Golf Club. Many a beverage was consumed by those in attendance and the food on the menu was mouth-watering. Accompanying the prestigious awards and trophies were a selection of roast meats, vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings…tasty.
Long-serving club president Andrew Sugden was given the pleasure of presenting the trophies. For his fabulous innings of 103 runs in a total of 238-6 away at Rastrick, Jason Vickerman was awarded the Harry Berry Cup. Vickerman received the trophy for the highest individual innings of the season for a senior side.
The Crabbe Trophy awarded for the best bowling performance for a senior side went to the man who ripped through the Linthwaite batting order. With figures of 6 wickets for just 10 runs, Brett Lodge deservedly earned the trophy.
An award that rewards consistently high levels of performance throughout the duration of a season is the Player of the Year trophy. 22 wickets at an average of 20.90 and a batting average of 20.42 was more than enough for Josh Hill to secure this gong, capping off an impressive debut season for the mighty all-rounder.
Chairman and treasurer Andy Hill collected the Moorhouse Trophy for club member of the year.
The highly anticipated Armitage Bridge CC Duck Race award went to Richard Pearce.
As the night went on, witty guest speaker Mike Kinnear entertained the guests, before a lucky raffle winner took home a big bottle of brandy.
